A staple of Waltham and surrounding communities, the Bristol Lodge Soup Kitchen has been serving hot, nutritious meals to those in need for the last three decades. Every evening, dedicated volunteers from throughout the Metro Boston area gather to prepare and serve food to up to 100 community members without access to affordable, healthy food.
Story Starters uses children’s literature to give families the tools and support to talk about race and racism and to engage in family-centered social justice conversations and actions.
First Church Youth Group Service Trip Fund
Our First Church Belmont Youth Group takes biennial service-learning trips. In 2019, they traveled to North Carolina to do hurricane and flood recovery work. In 2017, they traveled to West Virginia to assist the Wade Center with school renovations. The impact of these trips lead to a growing understanding of the impact of social action. Our next trip is scheduled for February 2021.
Belmont Against Racism
Founded in May 1992 after rioting scarred Los Angeles, Belmont Against Racism (BAR) is a community-action, all-volunteer organization addressing issues of racism and prejudice by following the slogan, think globally, act locally. We focus on fostering awareness and educating the community about exclusionary practices, creating a welcoming community for all, and increasing diversity throughout the town. While BAR, in its first decade, mostly focused on addressing racism, we have broadened our mission to include all problems of prejudice that impact our town and local community.
